Fayetteville Council Hears Parking Deck Options

Updated: November 27, 2012
At a meeting Tuesday night city staff and a consultant team recommended the theater lot just south of the Walton Arts Center as the best option for construction of a new parking deck.

A bond ordinance was passed over a year ago to fund construction of a new parking deck in the Dickson Entertain District.

After more than a year of meetings and public comments, council members went into Tuesday's meeting with three viable options.

The parking deck project consultants listed a lack of compatibility with nearby residential properties as a major factor in the recommendation to eliminate the East lot on School Ave as an option.

The main Walton Arts Center Lot also presents challenges of lost revenue and parking spaces due to the construction and losing the only remaining large piece of land in the area, potentially harming future development.

With those factors considered, the consultant recommended the city council proceed with the Theater lot on the Southeast Corner of the block where the Walton Arts Center is located.

Council members will make a final decision on the parking deck location at the December 4 City Council Meeting where the consultants will make their presentation again for the public.
