Some Fayetteville High School students went homeless for a night to raise awareness and funds for homeless in their district.

One hundred-seventy Fayetteville Public School students have been identified as homeless just in the 2012-13 school year.

For the past 14 years FHS students have camped out for a night to raise money in what they call the Homeless Vigil.

Their goal this year is 10,000 dollars.

The proceeds go directly to the program "Families in Transition" that helps homeless students and families get back on their feet.
Luckily this year is not quite as cold as in years past, but the night out gives students a better understanding of homelessness.

"I realized that there are people that really need our help and that each dollar counts each can of food counts, so especially during the holiday season, during the winter we can really help out , do whatever we can to help the people who are affected by poverty or homelessness in our district," Davis Trice, FHS Student Council President said.

The students will spend the night using a barrel of fire for heat and cardboard boxes as shelter. Monetary and food donations are being accepted.

Students will be out all night so donations can be dropped off at any time.
