Area Non-Profit Falls Short of Goal

The United Way of Benton County projects it will fall $200,000 short of funds this year-- funds that go toward area non-profits like the Samaritan Community Center in Rogers.
The United Way had hoped to raise $3.1 million dollars in 2006-- but say outside factors trumped their fundraising efforts.
"With the change of larger businesses going towards more smaller service industries, retail-industry type jobs, it`s harder to get in to do our traditional employee payroll deduction campaigns...we`re losing a lot of funding from that," says Brooke Benoit with the United Way.
The charity uses the money it raises to help fuel community programs.
Debbie Rambo-- Executive Director of the Samaritan Community Center-- says they may have to make some changes to their emergency dental clinic-- a service which relies heavily on the United Way for funding.
To help improve future fundraising, United Way plans to launch an awareness campaign in January.
The United Way serves 70 agencies and over 100 programs in Benton County.
