ASU Athletic Director in No Rush to Name New Coach

The coaching vacancy at Arkansas State University (ASU) in Jonesboro won't be filled quickly.

That's what ASU Athletic Director Terry Mohajir revealed this morning in a news conference focusing on what's next for the football program after Gus Malzahn's departure to Auburn on Tuesday.

Mohajir told media representatives that right now it's most important "to continue to support our student athletes," who have a chance of ending a very successful season as a Top 25 team, with a bowl game left to play.

He thanked the community and state for its support of the football program and said that "we are going to get the right coach at the right time."

The ASU athletic director said the focus for now is on the upcoming GoDaddy.com bowl game in Mobile, Alabama on January 6th. He said some ASU representatives will go to Mobile on Thursday as part of the bowl game's promotion.

As to when a coach search will officially begin, Mohajir said, "there's not a timeline right now, just to find the best coach."
