The Little Rock Police Department is investigating the armed robbery of an Exxon gas station on South University Avenue.

It happened Tuesday night just before 11:30 at the Zimmerman's Exxon.

Police say the clerk told them he first thought it was a joke because he recognized the voice of the suspect, who he says kept his face covered with gloves he was wearing. [The police report did not say how the clerk recognized the man's voice].

The suspect demanded the cash from the register and was last seen running towards a nearby apartment complex.

The clerk told officers he doesn't know the man's name but would recognize him by his voice if he returned to the store.

Police describe the suspect as a black man who's about 5'6" tall and weighs about 140 pounds. He was wearing a brown coat an blue jeans and was armed with a silver handgun with a wooden handle.
