Prairie Grove Skate Park Reopens After Vandalisim

Updated: December 7, 2012
The Prairie Grove Skate Park is back open, weeks after closing due to vandalism.  Now the city administrator is asking for help to keep it clean.

The park closed on November 26th following what police called "continuing vandalism."  But on Friday, the department announced folks could once again enjoy the park.

But this time with a word of warning and a call for action from those in the community.  Larry Oelrich with the city shared the following statement on the Prairie Grove PD Facebook page:

"The skate park re-opened this week. Cleaning up the damage is only part of the solution, everyone who uses it needs to realize its a privilege not a right. The message of its closing is: there are consequences in life when someone does something bad. Sometimes those consequences affect innocent people. If everyone would take care of the facility, and help keep it in good condition, it would never have to be closed. If you've seen people damaging equipment, writing graffiti, or vandalizing, report them. If we catch the ones that are guilty the park won't have to be closed. Vandalism costs everyone. The money spent to repair vandalism in City parks totals in the thousands of dollars every year, we need your help catching those responsible. We would much rather spend those thousands of dollars adding new equipment than spending it to clean and repair what is already there."
