Students at Eastside Elementary are thinking outside the box when it comes to learning with the help of acting in the classroom.

Kassie Misiewicz, the Artistic Director For Trike Theater, said, "Kids don't just learn by hearing things or seeing things. some students really need to be up on their feet exploring it."

A few times a week either their teacher who is a trained with the Trike Theater or one who is visits the classroom to give lessons in the not so traditional way.

Misiewicz, "The idea is they're communicating, problem solving and getting the information in multiple ways."

Through the Literacy In Action program students will do things like act out words in stories they are reading to better understand them.

"We're making what might be a flat picture become a three dimensional experience and then the students get on their feet and act it out," said
Mi
siewicz.

Eastside Elementary teacher Rachel Watterson adds, "They love it. you say the word trike and they are so ready to just have fun."It's just another way for teachers to assess how students are understanding the material."

Organizers say this way of learning encourages free-thinking, independence and better comprehension of the common core curriculum they're covering,

Misiewicz said, "We're part of the family. we're here to enrich the students lives to help them be better learners."
