Police shifted staff to the north side of town to deal with heavy traffic on Christmas Eve.
The area around Northwest Arkansas mall presents a problem for officers, as turn lanes fill up with people in a hurry to get into shops.
"Unfortunately people are a little bit rushed, you know almost in a panic mode of trying to get that last minute gift or forgot an item," says Sgt. Craig Stout of the Fayetteville Police Department.
Stout says drivers need to be patient, and he hopes they keep the holiday spirit in mind rather than fighting for parking spaces and running red lights.
