Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is celebrating a successful 2012.

The museum is counting the total number of visitors each day, and say more than 556,000 people visited the museum this year, surpassing expectations.

The museum's director of communications Laura Jacobs says the challenge now is to keep the momentum going in 2013.

Jacobs says the museum plans to actively seek new and repeat visitors by rotating exhibitions, artwork and programming.

Since Crystal Bridges opened in 2011, more than 647,000 people have checked it out.
