Over the Edge: Asparagus Helps Hangovers

Scientists say eat your asparagus.  The reason?  To take the edge off your new year's hangover.  That's the recommendation from South Korean researchers  who say asparagus extract has minerals and amino acids which *could* protect you from that post-party headache...or worse.  Researchers have also found asparagus may help protect your from cancer and other illnesses.

Speaking of things that smell bad -- and if you eat asparagus you know what we mean -- the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, Australia is causing quite the stink.  A rare sumatran flower has bloomed and it's scent is not all that sweet.  People say it smells like a rotting corpse.  The plant blooms once every six years -- and only lasts for two days.

And finally it looks like we aren't the only ones keeping warm by the fire this holiday season.  These monkeys at a zoo in central Japan are also gathering around a fire to keep the cold at bay.  The flames don't just keep the animals toasty.  Zookeepers also use the fire to bake sweet potatoes for the monkeys.  As you can see, the treats are a big hit with the animal.
