Fayetteville to Discuss Regulating Video Billboards

By: Amanda Ashley
Updated: December 28, 2012
The Fayetteville City Council has agreed to discuss changing sign ordinances for the city to include restrictions on electric billboards.

The measure would regulate the size, brightness and placement of these video boards, updating a current ordinance that restricts signs that blink or flash inside city limits.

In a letter to the mayor, City Attorney Kit Williams said the proposed ordinance would help to "keep up with the times and technology to maintain aesthetic and traffic safety" in Fayetteville.  He and the city's planning staff worked together to create the suggested amendments.

These type of electronic billboards can be seen along Interstate 540 and are also used by local gas stations and convenience stores.

The measure is slated to be discussed at the next regular city council meeting on January 3rd.
