Why Do We Make New Year's Resolutions?

Whether you keep it or break it - most likely you'll make it.  But why do we make New Year's resolutions?  Turns out the tradition goes back 4,000 years.

According to History.com, it is believed these pledges came from the Babylonians who would make promises to the gods, such as paying off debts, in exchange for a positive beginning to the year.
