January is fall injury prevention month and one out three adults age 65 and over fall each year. In Northwest Arkansas, the stats are staggering. This year alone nearly two thousand rogers citizens age 65 or older will accidentally fall. That's why the Rogers Fire Department is making an effort to cut down on those numbers. If you or a loved one would like an evaluation of your home for fall dangers the fire department would be glad to come to your home. Travis Hollis, Battalion Chief at the Rogers Fire Department, said the U.S. spends about 30 billion dollars on fall injuries for the elderly a year. He said if his department can cut down on one ambulance ride, or one hospital visit, they will consider that a win.
Once again, if you'd like to have the Rogers Fire Department evaluate fall dangers in your home, just call them at 479-986-6800.
