Zachary Holly Arraignment

Zachary Holly appeared in court Monday morning in front of Judge Robin Green. Last week, the prosecutor officially charged Holly with the capital murder, kidnapping and rape of six-year-old, Jersey Bridgeman. Monday, he pleaded not guilty in front of the judge and Jersey's mother, DesaRae Bridgeman, along with other family members, based on those charges. Holly lived next door to Jersey and had helped babysit her the night before she went missing. Police discovered the little girl's body in an empty home just two doors down from where she lived.  During Monday's arraignment, the judge set a February 28th pretrial court date for Holly. Benton County prosecutor Van Stone says he will seek the death penalty for Holly involving the murder charge.

Business Burglary; Inside Job

A Winslow man faces theft charges after police say he broke into his own workplace, and robbed it. Officers arrested Kenneth Manning after they say Manning broke into Kimball and Thompson Produce on Shady Grove Road last month. According to police, surveillance video shows Manning wearing his own company jacket while he searched the building for money. The day after the burglary, Manning apparently called in sick to work. He now faces charges of commercial burglary and theft of property. He was released Friday on a $2,500 bond. Manning faces a judge February 4th.

Bizarre Drug Arrest

A Fayetteville woman is charged in a unique drug smuggling case. Police arrested Erin Maglothin at a Days Inn this weekend, after responding to a drug call. She was first arrested on charges of trespassing, criminal michief and public intoxication. A short time later, investigators say Maglothin admitted that she also had Oxycontin pills and a syringe, hidden inside of her vagina. After a search, police found 180 Oxycontin pills, the syringe, and a spoon. Officers also found several lists of doctors' names, numbers, and prescriptions, along with the name of someone Maglothin said was her meth dealer.

Back to Class in Bentonville

After a long holiday vacation, it's time to hit the books in Bentonville. And security is a top priority, following the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Here at home, police will continue to patrol all of the schools in the district more than usual. Officers will also be stopping by and routinely checking in as school begins and lets out.

Gun Training in Arkansas Schools

A plan is in the works to provide schools with special training, in the event that a tragedy like Sandy Hook, happens here in Arkansas. Arkansas State Police says that Ken Jones, the director of the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training, will head up efforts to establish the committee. The training would only be offered if local schools ask for it.

Record Gun Show Attendance
Despite the controversy surrounding guns and gun control, here in northwest Arkansas, business is booming. The first gun show of the year in our area was held in Springdale over the weekend. Organizers say they saw record attendance. We were there, as more than 2,000 people showed up for the R.K. Gun and Knife Show, in just a matter of five hours.

Gun Ban Petition
More than 85,000 people and counting. That's how many people have signed a petition to keep Walmart from selling assault weapons. The petition specifically references the Bush Master AR-15. That's the same high-powered rifle linked to the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting. Walmart has already pulled the listing for another similar rifle from its online store. Dick's Sporting Goods also pulled certain semi-automatic rifles off of its shelves in the wake of the tragedy.
