A Fayetteville man is sentenced to eight years behind bars on child porn charges.

60-year-old Stephen Charles Smith was sentenced Thursday for receiving or downloading child pornography from the internet. A judge ordered him to pay $5,000 in fines and serve 20 years of supervised probation after his release from prison. Smith was originally arrested in May 2012 after an investigation turned up 25 different videos of child pornography.

According to court documents, in May of 2012, Homeland Security Investigations and the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce conducted an investigation into the trade and distribution of child pornography over the internet in Northwest Arkansas. During the course of this investigation, Stephen Smith was identified as a possible suspect and a federal search warrant was later executed at his residence in Fayetteville. Upon executing the search warrant, law enforcement discovered multiple large screen monitors and several computers that contained child pornography.  After being advised of and waiving his Miranda rights, Smith admitted to downloading and possessing child pornography. At the sentencing hearing, Federal District Court Judge Hendren was presented evidence by the Government that Smith possessed over 25 different videos of child pornography, many of which involved minors under the age of 12 engaged in sadistic and masochistic conduct.
