"He has a great spirit about him," track and field coach Chris Bucknam says. "He works hard and he's meshed right in with our team," Bucknam added. "They respect that I'm both football and track," Wise said following his college shot put debut. "It's like I'm part of their family so now I'm a part of two families (at Arkansas)."
As part of the class of 2012 Wise ranked among the top 40 defensive ends prospects in the nation while also qualifying for the Texas state championship meet throwing discus.
"As you can see he's a great athlete, coming off of football he's had limited practice time in the fall so the indoor events like the shot put are going to take some time but we think he's going to be an outstanding discuss thrower outside," Bucknam said of his two-way freshman athlete.
Wise placed 4th in the shot put in the Hogs indoor win over Texas, and appears bent on balancing both spring football and outdoor track later this year.
"It's gonna go pretty smoothly until where then its going to start getting rough when outdoor starts because of spring football cause I have to make both sides happy, so that's it," Wise concluded.
Spring football does not begin for Arkansas until early March, and wraps up April 20th with the annual Red-White game.
