Church Fundraiser to Put Snack Packs in Backpacks

A group of folks gathered funds to help feed hungry children.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Rogers hosted its 3rd Annual Soup Supper Fundraiser Saturday night.

The church sponsors 50 children a week, putting snackpacks in their backpacks. Students who receive the packs would most likely be without food on the weekends otherwise. Last year, the event raised $ 5,000 which funded the program for the entire year.

"It's very important that this community address the poverty issues. One in six are hungry and Benton County has a real high rate of hunger, so I feel that it's the church's responsibility to help feed the hungry people," said Thurman Metcalf, chairman of the fundraiser.

Hundreds of people came out to show their support this year, and participated in the auction, raffle and of course ate some good food all for great cause.
