A Fayetteville man is behind bars after police say he had sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Police arrested 26-year-old Peter Alvarez on Sunday after being called to a report of a sexual assault. According to officers, the victim's mother was searching for her daughter when she learned Alvarez had taken her to his house where they had consensual sex.

Alvarez told police his younger brother had sex with the victim and claims he woke up naked and couldn't remember what had happened because he had been drinking. He's now in the Washington County Jail, awaiting charges of sexual assault.
