No More Funeral Escorts in Springdale
By: KNWA News
Updated: January 15, 2013
Effective immediately, Springdale Police will no longer provide escorts for funerals.
According to a statement from the department, the decision came as a result of a study and recommendations made by the city's liability insurance provider.
They cite recent population growth in Springdale and an increase in call volume as a drain on resources preventing them from providing adequately safe escorts for funeral processions.
Since Arkansas lacks laws that give funeral processions the right of way, they recommend funeral homes inform people driving to burial sites that they should follow all Arkansas traffic laws and not to assume other drivers will stop for them.
