Bentonville is warning about a phone scam asking folks to pay for upgrades to their city electric meters.

The police department says  they began receiving complaints on Tuesday.  During the calls, you are asked to use a credit card/debit card in order to pay for upgrades for new meters.

While the city is in the process of upgrading the electric and water meters on residences at this time, there is absolutely no upgrade fee for the new meters.

The phone number associated with the scam is (985) 400-3628.

If you get a call like this you should report it to the police.
