Thursday's Edge List: What not to buy in January
Number One -- Mattresses
Mattresses are not good buys in January, most sales on mattresses won't be until next month during small holiday weekends. You can expect better deals in February around President's Day and in July around the 4th of July weekend. What is on sale this month, holiday trimmings, from wrapping paper to ornaments, holiday decor items are on sale this month.
Number two -- Luggage
Luggage is full price in January, so you can expect better deals closer to March and April when its time for vacations. What is on sale, winter clothing, retailers want to clear their inventories for spring collections so you can find deals on the thicker clothes right now.
Number three -- Patio Accessories
Even though it's winter, the best deals for patio accessories won't be for a few months. You can expect better deals closer to Memorial Day in May. Whats on sale right now, home improvement supplies, so stock up and get those projects done around the house.
Number four -- New Electronics
This month, prices on electronics are a mixed bag, there are some great deals but newer technology will be pricier. You can expect better deals closer to the super bowl in February. What is on sale right now is older electronics, so if you want to buy the older model, go right ahead.
Number five -- Fine Jewelry
Because December is such a huge month for jewelry sales, the prices return to regular come January. You can expect better deals in December during the Holidays. However, costume jewelry and cashmere is on sale this month since new items are starting to come out, the fall items will be on clearance.
Number six -- Small Appliances
If you're looking to buy a coffee maker or microwave, wait just a few weeks. You can find better deals towards the end of January and during Presidents Day sales in February. What is on sale right now is department store cosmetics, January specials feature cosmetic sets at special prices.
Number Seven --Winter Sports Gear
People think winter sports gear goes on sale after the holidays, but it won't go on a deep discount until after the winter sports season. You can expect better deals starting in March, April and May. But what is on sale right now, fitness equipment and gym memberships.
