The Benton County Sheriff's Office has recovered a shotgun that went missing after a deputy forgot to put it away.

Sheriff Kelley Cradduck says they found the shotgun on the side of the road near Highway 71 in Bella Vista. It was returned to a gun shop there.

Last week, Cradduck asked his part-time division to bring all their gear in for an inventory.

Deputy Mark Heiner left the 12-guage shotgun on the roof of his car as he left the station.

Deputy Heiner was fired for the mistake and Cradduck says there are no plans at this time to rehire him.
