New Technology Can Make Winter Travel Safer

It looks like a giant video game, but this simulator could be a lifesaver.

Purchased at a price tag of a hundred grand, more than 1,000 officers from around the state have already used it and are learning to make safe stops, practice their pursuits and prepare for the worst.

"That's the best thing about this, I can simulate extreme conditions," David Baxter with the municipal league said the device can test officers on all aspects of winter driving from reduced visibility to braking conditions.

Officers, Baxter said, often feel we're all safer when mistakes are made here instead of out there.

"You have to learn to drive in those conditions."
