Holly's Attorneys Seek Mental Evaluation

Updated: January 24, 2013
The attorneys for the man accused of killing 6-year-old Jersey Bridgeman are seeking a mental evaluation, saying he may not be fit to stand trial.

On January 17th, Zachary Holly's lawyers filed a motion seeking the evaluation, according to Benton County Prosecuting Attorney Van Stone.

Holly, 28, has a pretrial hearing set for February 28th.  In January, Holly pleaded not guilty to capital murder, kidnapping and rape related to the death of the Bentonville girl.

Benton County Prosecutor Van Stone has said he will seek the death penalty against him.

Holly is being held at the Benton County Jail without bond.

Jersey Bridgeman's body was found in a vacant house near her home on November 20.  It was later determined she died of asphyxiation.  After an investigation, Holly was arrested for her murder a week later.

In late January, Holly's wife filed a protection order against him, blocking him from calling her from jail.
