Monday's Edge List: Top Valued Sports Events

Number 10 - The Kentucky Derby
The derby drew 103 million dollars in wagers last year with Churchill Downs pocketing three-percent of bets at the track. However, the brand value is $67 million.
 
Number 9 - Major League Baseball All-Star Week
MLB has transformed the midsummer classic into a weeklong affair that in recent years has featured a parade of hall of famers and appearances by all five living US Presidents. The brand value of this event, $75 million.

Number 8- NCAA Mens Final Four
U.S. College basketball's signature event generates almost twice the revenue per day of competition than university football's bowl championship series. The brand value here, $90 million.

Number 7- Winter Olympic Games
The Vancouver games generated 60% more revenue than the previous Winter Olympics held in Italy which approached $1.6 billion. The brand value of the Winter Olympics, $93 million.

Number 6- Daytona 500
Despite slashing ticket prices for 4,000 seats by 73%, the great American race still generates close to $30 million in gate and infield parking receipts from stock car fans. The average brand value, $100 million.

Number 5- Major League Baseball World Series
A series of at least five games ensures the fall classic as the highest-grossing annual championship event worldwide. The brand value, $106 million.

Number 4- UEFA European Football Championship
The Euro Tournament is the biggest driver of corporate hospitality spending in sports, totaling $200 million in 2008, the last time the competition was held. The brand value of this one, $110 million.

Number 3- FIFA World Cup
Organizers of the World Cup in South Africa say media and sponsorship revenue topped the 2006 tournament by as much as $600 million. The brand value, $120 million.

Number 2- The Summer Olympic Games
With total revenues of $3.9 billion, the Beijing games fell just shy of becoming the first sporting event to gross $4 billion. The brand value, $230 million.

Number 1- Super Bowl
Last years game attraced a record USTV audience of 106.5 million, this year, that number increased to 108.4 million. The brand value is $420 million.
