The Arkansas Parole Board will have more power to keep violent offenders locked up under a bill that cleared committee on Wednesday.
The bill eliminates automatic parole for crimes like attempted capital and first-degree murder, as well as arson.
Senator David Sanders of Little Rock says his legislation gives the parole board the ability to keep the most dangerous people in prison longer.
