The Arkansas House has voted to override Governor Mike Beebe's veto of the 20-week abortion ban bill.

The legislative body voted 53-28 Wednesday afternoon.

The proposal sought to ban abortions in Arkansas after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Bill sponsor Representative Andy Mayberry (R-Hensley) cited data that less than 2 percent of abortions occur that late, before he added exceptions for the health or life of the mother, rape and incest.

Governor Beebe vetoed the 20-week abortion bill Tuesday, citing concerns that the bill went against the precedent set by the U.S Supreme Court.

He also said the bill could end up costing taxpayers money, because what he calls an "unconstititional" bill would end up in a legal battle if it were to become law.
