She also says the fun filled event helps save lives and make a difference in the fight against this disease. "75 percent of the funds stay here in our service area and the 15 percent that leaves our area goes 100-percent for research. So we aren't paying salaries at national we are not doing anything with that 25 percent accept the very important thing of trying to find a cure for breast cancer" And the money that does stay here helps pay for programs that educate, raise awareness and support local families facing breast cancer.
"We do mammograms, screening education. We provide emergency funding for people who need help buying gas cards, paying their electric bill while going through treatment. You know some of the things that you and I take for granted but people really need help with and that's the important work that we are working on everyday." And for Nikolish, who is also a breast cancer survivor, race day means laughter , smiles, and most importantly hope."You can not stand there and not look at all the people that are there and not be touched by all the love and support they must have for someone in their family.
A loved one or maybe even someone they don't even know that they felt that strongly to come out and support the day i mean that to me is just over whelming."To sign up for this year's race click here.
