Springdale--Gary Mickelson, spokesman for Tyson Foods, has confirmed with KNWA that the company will close the doors to its processing plant on Ford Avenue in Springdale. Mickelson said the plant employs around "60" people.
According to an email from Tyson to KNWA, the decision to close the Ford Avenue plant came from the "changing demand for certain specialty products."
Tyson says most employees "are being offered permanent positions at other Tyson Foods locations" in Northwest Arkansas.
The Ford Avenue plant has been operating for more than 15 years, and it once served as a research and development pilot plant for the company. According to the email, in more recent years, most of the products made at the plant have been relocated or consolidated to other facilities.
