As Spring Break approaches, the Benton County Sheriff's Office is warning young drivers of increased enforcement efforts.
Benton County Sheriff's Office Captain Jeremy Felton announced the Sheriff's Office will conduct sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and stepped up enforcement March 8-17 and April 12-21, looking for impaired drivers with an emphasis on young adults and teens who drink and drive.
The Sheriff's Office says it's especially important during this time of year when young people are on the road for Spring Break and other end-of-school activities like proms and graduation events.
According to Arkansas' DUI law, it's illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to drive with a Blood Alcohol Content of .02 or higher.
Sgt. Lynn Hahn with the Sheriff's Office says, "Impaired driving is not just another traffic offense. It is a serious crime that often causes needless deaths and injuries...If you are over the limit, we will arrest and prosectute you. No exception. No excuses."
According to the Sheriff's Office, for young drivers, it only takes one drink to be impaired. Underage drinking laws in all 50 states make it illegal for anyone under 21 to consume any amount of alcohol.
