This is Sunday's edition of -- The Pulse.
Number five -- Demonstrators in Washington, D.C. rallied to end sexual assault and violence against women. The protest comes on the heels of International Women's Day and after President Obama signed into law the reauthorized Violence Against Women Act. The law includes expanded protections for victims including gays, lesbians, Native Americans and illegal immigrants. The group is also calling for equal pay for equal work.
Number four -- Monday marks the second anniversary of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan. Nearly 16,000 people died in the disaster. The earthquake and tsunami also triggered a meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, forcing thousands of people to abandon their homes to escape radiation.
Number three -- The Cat Haven Preserve welcomed visitors for the first time Sunday, just four days after 24-year-old Diana Hanson was killed while cleaning a lion enclosure. According to the coroner's office, CousCous the lion escaped from a his feeding pen and pounced on Hanson, killing her almost instantly. The founder of Cat Haven said they closed the sanctuary in respect to Hanson, not because of any requirement.
Number two -- 26 competitive cyclists will be riding the 400 miles from Newtown to Washington, D.C. for the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting. They will ride for four days to the nation's capital to honor the lost and to urge new and stricter gun laws, specifically, mandatory background checks on all gun sales and getting rid of high capacity magazines.
Number one -- A car accident claimed the lives of six teenagers and sent two others to the hospital. Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators said the SUV had too many people in it and that no one was wearing seat belts. Emergency crews arrived on scene just after 7:00 a.m. where the SUV was in a nearby pond. Dive teams were called to help rescue the injured and retrieve the vehicle. No word on the cause of the crash, but police do not believe alcohol was a factor.
