Kelli Cloud: Linda's Obituary

I sat with Kelli Cloud in her office as she read something I'll never forget,
"I, Linda Kay Winbury Cloud, passed away from this earthly world"
Kelli read her mothers obituary to me. You see, Kelli watched her mother Linda fight breast cancer for nine years.
Kelli kept reading,
"Due to my lack of early and regular check ups my breast cancer wasn't discovered until it was in stage four."
Kelli lost her mother a few weeks before we talked.
As the tears in her eyes began to show she read more,
"I tell you this so that I may be able to help save another life. For just a simple check up on a regular basis you can increase your chances of spending more years with your spouse, children and grandchildren"
Kelli's mom didn't let her disease have last word. Perhaps these words are the most haunting,
"We all think that cancer happens to the other person, but this time I was the other person"
Kelli says she didn't see her mothers words until the obit ran in the paper.
In a way Linda's obituary was a message from a mother to a daughter. When Kelli and I talked shed not had a mammogram. A few weeks after the interview I arranged for the Mammo-Bus to come to KNWA.
Kelli got her mammogram and she hopes you will do the same. Kelly, her father, and sister all want to make sure you understand Linda's message. Get your mammogram. The life you save may be your own.
