It was April 19, 1995 when the bomb exploded, killing 168 people. The memorial began at 9:02 a.m., the exact time the bomb exploded.
Participants observed 168 seconds of silence, followed by the reading of the names of the victims. Participants and speakers at the ceremony also took time to reach out to the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings.
Burns Hargis, the Memorial Foundation Chairman said, "Today as we gather as a community, in continuing the healing we also take time to remember the students at Virginia Tech, and we send our thoughts to them."
Timothy McVeigh was convicted of federal murder charges for the bombing, and was executed in June of 2001.
