Governor Mike Beebe opposes a proposed Indian casino in Fort Smith, and says he plans to fight the proposal if it will make a difference in the federal approval process.
Fort Smith developer Bennie Westphal and the tribe want to build a $131 million casino and hotel on ten acres on Fort Smiths Downtown Riverfront.
The tribe petitioned to place the site into trust under federal indian gambling laws, which is necessary to get federal permission to build and operate a casino.
Beebe says he opposes casino gambling, and that his opposition includes the proposed casino in Fort Smith.
