Ozark Transit Fears Funding Cuts

By: Alexa Hamblin
Updated: April 20, 2007
Ozark Regional Transit has formed a committee to address the possibility that the bus system could lose funding in the future, despite seeing an increasing number of riders. The ORT faces a 30% loss of funding after the 2010 census. ORT serves passengers in Fayetteville, Springdale, Lowell, Rogers, Bentonville, and Farmington. Under Federal Transit Administration regulations, funding wil be limited when the population in the Northwest Arkansas area grows to over 200,000. ORT's budget is $2.4 million annually.
