Wilson said he is concerned it will promote a lifestyle in Eureka Springs. Eureka is also home to The Passion Play, which draws thousands of faith driven tourists a year. Wilson said city officials think this ordinance will also generate revenue, but in his opinion in an immoral way.
Eureka Springs store owner Alvin Byrd hopes the ordinance will pass. While Byrd is well aware of the controversy from the faith community, he said this ordinance is not a religous issue. Bryrd said the ordinance is not just for gay couples, but for straight couples who choose not to marry, as well.
