Changes To The State Capitol

By: Jennifer Griggy
Updated: April 27, 2007
(Little Rock, AR) Arkansas Secretary of State Charlie Daniels today announced plans to remodel the first floor rotunda area of the state Capitol into a state-of-the-art visitor services center. The center will include an area in the northwest corner of the first floor for tourists to gather information on Arkansas and the state Capitol through the use of an interactive computer touchscreen and educational videos. Visitors conducting business in the Capitol will be able to catch up on emails using a new wi-fi connection. The northeast corner will include space for working on laptops and watching the news. Additionally, the U.S. Post Office, Capitol Police bureau, Capitol Gift Shop, and Tour Desk will be renovated to facilitate ease of use and to restore the continuity of the historical buildings design elements. Construction is set to begin Sunday, April 29th and will continue during off-business hours until the renovations are complete around August 2007. (Copyright 2007 Newsroom Solutions, LLC)
