Nutt told Ron Higgins a reporter from The Commercial Appeal, a Memphis newspaper, that he will not crack under a smear campaign to get him to quit his job. Higgens asked Nutt about both Mitch Mustain and Damian Williams transferring after just one season and the text messaging with a newsanchor. Nutt said, "I know who the group is doing this and they want me to crack. Theyve tried two or three different tactics. Im not going to crack. Im not going to crack. They are not going to be able to move my family out this year. They arent going to be able to do it. Theyve got to do it from what happens on the field." Nutt went on to tell Higgins " When they start throwing out personal things that are lies, thats when you are out-of-bounds. What hurts most is when they get your wife and kids involved, thats when you want to really put on the gloves and come out fighting." Frank Broyles even commented on Nutts recent publicized issues and how its hurt him to see Nutt go through this. Broyles said "There seems to be a few people who want to do evil, sinful, un-christianlike things. I feel sorry for them."
