In Rogers, people in one neighborhood are concerned about a proposed cell phone tower.
This is the sight where Verizon Wireless wants to build a 90 foot tower.
Its not a tower of babble, but maybe a tower to babble. Verizon Wireless wants to rent property from the Rogers Freewill Baptist Church to build a cell phone tower
The companys took its idea to the Rogers Planning Commission on April third, but members asked Verizon to change the plans after neighbors voiced their concerns.
The 90 foot structure will be disgusted as a bell tower and will over look everything in the surrounding neighborhood.
Terry Weiderhaft, who opposes the tower, says "the main concern is its going right in a residential neighborhood. There are people whose homes are going to be 20 feet from the tower thats 90 feet tall. Doesnt seem to be the right location."
But its the right price, Verizon Wireless will pay the church $900 a month to use their land.
"Were going to receive money thats going support our youth ministry," said Pastor Randy Burris.
Still Pastor Burris says its not about the money, "it would be a blessing but we dont want to have anything that would be a hindrance to the neighborhood."
"If this one goes in i think they can set one in anyones back yard if they let this one go i think its a bad precedent to set," Burris said.
If the Rogers Planning Commission approves the structure, then the plans would have to go before the city council before being built.
