breaking news
Peggy Maringer enjoys gardening on her five acre farm in Springdale, but Thursday it was anything but an enjoyable experience when a neighbors pitt bull jumped a wall and moved in for an attack. Shortly after the first pitt bull made its way into Peggys yard...four more pit bulls followed. Maringer began to scream for help and within seconds her labrador retriever came to her aid, placing himself between his owner and the pack of growling dogs. Peggy was able to escape into a vehicle without injury as her husband arrived and beat the pit bulls away from his dog with a machete and a stick. Everyone made it out of the attack unharmed, with the exception of the Maringers hero dog, Marley. The couple is thankful for that, but say they shutter to think of what could have happened because an elementary school playground sits just feet from where the attack occurred.
Now Springdale officials are questioning whether laws should be put in place banning anyone from owning a pit bull within city limits. City attorneys are compiling information from the last few years concerning incidents of residents charged with harboring vicious animals. After those records are studied, a decision could be made to ban pit bulls from the city....but attorneys say they are not actively seeking to adopt that policy.
The owner of the dogs involved in the attack could face fines up to $10,000. The Maringer family dog Marley is doing just fine.
