The 56th annual National Day of Prayer brought people from around the country together to pray and give thanks. Ceremonies were held all over the United States, from the White House to the state capitol building in Little Rock. The day was established by the U.S. Congress in 1952 and was put into effect by President Harry Truman.
Local pastor, Tim Smith with the Fayetteville First Assembly of God, says many prayers on this day go out to lawmakers and those that govern or country. He tells us, "We want to see them make choices that will lead our country in the right direction, so we pray for them."
President Bush pointed out the need to remember the men and women fighting overseas by saying, "We implore his protection for those who protect us here at home and at far away lands."
