Marine LCpl. Chris Traxson went to Iraq in September of last year, just a month later his humvee hit a roadside bomb leaving him severely burned.
Traxsons mother Rita says the explosion left 55-percent of his body covered in third degree burns.
Traxson is now at the Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas where he is recovering.
Rita says hes had several surgeries since the accident and may need more.
Traxsons friends and co-workers at the police department wanted to help his family with expenses so they came up with the idea for a rummage sale.
"Hes one of our family, you work there and youre family and its our job to take care of him and be there," says Amanda Crawford, one of Traxons co-workers. "Everybody knows everybody. Everybody is a big family, if something happens to one then it happens to all of us."
"We are very grateful, we hope Chris recovery continues to improve and we appreciate all the people of Northwest Arkansas for what theyve done," says Rita Traxson.
Many people just stopped by to make a donation for the family.
Rita says Chris continues to have a positive attitude and is improving everyday.
