Tonight at the Rogers public library, many gathered to weigh the pros and cons of a proposed cell phone tower. "We need some help and reception on our cell phones...I think this is gonna help," said Bob Dunning, a neighborhood resident.
It was an emotional night in Rogers - as neighbors gathered to tell verizon, "absolutely not."
Tim McClung lives next to the proposed site, and is against the tower. "It is right next to my property and do I want it there? Absolutely not. Absolutely not." Hes not alone.
Judging from the majority response of the community, Verizon made very little headway tonight in trying to convince the community and pick a design for the tower. The neighbors were not having any of it.
"I dont care what they say i think its going to come down to money," said resident JeanStrickert.
That was the unianimous argument tonight: Residents are concerned about the look of the tower, the value of their property, and how the tower might affect their health. Though bob dunning has done research and was one of the very few in support of the project.
"I dont see any proof that this tower will cause any kind of cancer, and I think there is really no real concern," said Dunning.
So the debate continues - but for the residents of that neighborhood, its over. They say, "no," and are standing by their answer. The tower will be voted on next Tuesday - and you can bet everyone who was in the room tonight will be there.
