Author Kim Carlos says she would be here today had she not done her self-exam. Carlos co-wrote the book "Noordies at Noon". The book is about four women, including Carlos, and the fight against breast cancer. The day we caught up with Carlos she spoke at the in the pink luncheon in rogers. Cancer survivors and co-survivors of all ages learned from Carlos and her experiences. Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe said the day showed just the importance of breast cancer awareness. The 2008 Komen Ozark Race For The Cure Race Chair and breast cancer survivor said Carlos brought back a lot of memories. Reed also said she learned one thing early on in her fight with breast cancer..that she was a survivor. President and owner of Yarnells Ice Cream Rogers Yarnell told luncheon participants about something new his company has started to support the fight against this disease. Everyone at the luncheon got to taste one of those new treats. During the luncheon two local volunteers were honored for efforts in the fight against breast cancer. Dr. Danna Greer of The Breast Center Of Northwest Arkansas and Mr. Dick Trammel both received Cameo Awards for volunteerism. For many the In The Pink Luncheon is a symbol of progress and hope. Sponsor and supporter Johnelle Hunt said she remember the first luncheon because she had it at her home. She also said it was neat to look around today and see how far the group has come. Nancy Bird is The Vice President Of The Domestic Affiliate Network For The Susan G Komen For A Cure Foundation. She said she appreciated the bond survivors and families in our area share.
