Citing health issues, the University of Arkansas is banning its Fayetteville campus community and its visitors from using tobacco products. The details are still being ironed out, but here's the plan on the ban: It includes: The use of all tobacco products, including smokeless products on all University property, inside and out. It applies to visitors, students, faculty and staff To all university vehicles. To all indoor and outdoor athletic activities To anyone organizing or attending an event using university facilities. No more tobacco products will be sold on campus, and no more cigarette butts on campus, either. Its all part of an effort to protect the health of the students, faculty, and visitors to the campus. The next 14 months will be spent spreading the word to stop smoking and using tobacco products, so that everyone wont have to quit cold turkey. This policy will start July 1, of 2008. No word yet on what the punishment is if you are caught smoking after that time. If you live on campus, and want to learn more about stopping smoking, visit Pat Walker Health Center's website.
