KNWA’s investigation into the reason for the high gas prices in Northwest Arkansas continued today. On Monday we visited the headquarters of EZ MART Stores Incorporated in Texarkana, Texas. Since the company supplies much of Northwest Arkansas with gas, we wanted to hear their answers why residents in our area pay more for gasoline than residents in almost any other part of the state. We weren’t granted an on camera interview, but we were told the company would respond if we put our questions in writing. We did, but the responses we received didn’t satisfy us, so we packed up and headed for El Dorado, Arkansas to pay a visit to another major fuel provider.
Earlier in the week we tried several times to contact the Murphy Oil Company, but our calls went unanswered. We showed up in person on Tuesday, but again we were denied an on camera interview. A representative did speak to us by phone, but refused to meet with us in person….even though we were in the same building. We received many of the same answers from the Murphy Oil representative that we received from the EZ MART representative. Both told us Northwest Arkansas was in a different market than the rest of the state and that different fuel providers supplied those parts of the state. Those were answers we’d already heard before and again, we were not satisfied. So, we packed up and headed east….bound for another area of the state and another fuel supplier’s headquarters.
