Labor force data, produced by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics and released today by the Department of Workforce Services, shows Arkansas' seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point to 5 percent in April. The United States' jobless rate, at 4.5 percent, also increased one-tenth of a percentage point. After eight consecutive months of gains, the number of employed Arkansas residents dropped 6,000 over the month to 1,311,500. The employment-population ratio declined from 60.8 percent in March to 60.4 percent in April, which was partly responsible for the decrease in the number of employed Arkansans. Arkansas' unemployment count rose 1,300 to total 68,800 in April. (Copyright 2007 Newsroom Solutions, LLC)
