Sonic, Subway, Arbys, Dunkin Donuts, and Dairy Queen: Those are ranked as having some of the cleanest public bathrooms in America, and were picked by you in an online effort to guilt the offenders into cleaning up their act.
Public bathrooms run amuck with muck, and whatever else that is on the stall wall.
Enter Lia Pendaravis, a.k.a. the Lavatory Lady. She has seen it all and now blogs about it. She has even dumped some places, like grocery stores for their bad bathrooms
"It didnt appear to have been cleaned for probably months, and I actually saw someone who worked there went in and acked like it wasnt a big thing," says Pendaravis, "But there was stuff everywhere. I havent been back since then."
Lavatory lady is bringing new meaning to the term "potty mouth."
"You dont want to be on the dirty bathroom list," she says.
Pendaravis says she spends an hour a week going into bathrooms: checking stalls, seat covers, and changing stations. Hidden camera video is also helping to close the lid on a dirty situation. All get rated on her bathroom blog.
"My message to these people is check your bathrooms often, clean them often, and make sure you get everything together, beause the Lavatory Lady is coming," she says.
And you could end up on a list you dont want to be on. About the worst restaurant, she writes, "paper and debris everywhere and I cant even name all the fluids that covered the toilet seat. The sink was disgusting."
But the 36-year-old also knows the royal flush when she sees it. The best bathroom award goes to the Nordstroms department store in Pentagon City, Virginia.
"Particularly if you have little babies, they have a mothers room, it has a counter to change the baby and it even has a diaper dispenser which Ive never seen," Pendaravis says.
