breaking news
KNWAs Alex Flippin, Doug Currin, and Whitney Ray travelled to Transmontaignes distribution terminals in Rogers, AR and Mt. Vernon, MO, as well as to the corporate headquarters in Denver, CO seeking answers on the high price of Northwest Arkansas gas.
KNWA has learned that wholesale gasoline at the Razorback Pipeline in Rogers is now selling for sixteen cents lower than just 24 hours ago on Tuesday...and gas stations are still selling it at much higher prices.
Doug Currin continued our quest for answers as to why gas is so expensive at the pipeline. As we approached the Razorback Pipeline security gate at the Rogers terminal, we had to speak to someone through an intercom system. That person informed us that they are not allowed to answer any questions or speak to the press, and referred us to their headquarters in Denver. We have seen no drop in prices yet, and seen no official reason why from gas officials.
Realizing we would find no clarifications in Rogers, we sent KNWAs Alex Flippin to the source of the Razorback Pipeline in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. After being told by several gas distributors and oil companies that the Razorback Pipeline Terminal in Rogers charges more to store fuel for companies than other terminals in Arkansas, we decided to take our questions to them. We know that the "spur" which supplies the Rogers depot originates in Mt. Vernon, but other than that fact we still don’t know much about how the terminal works. We wanted to ask if the Razorback Pipeline does charge more for their services and what that amount is. We also wanted to know a little bit about the process of shipping fuel into Northwest Arkansas, but after repeated attempts to reach someone who works there, we left with the same questions we had before the trip started.
KNWA tried to get an employee to answer the intercom at the only entrance into the terminal, but to no avail. We tried calling the company, but we only reached a voicemail message….and our calls weren’t returned.
Met only with silence at Transmontaignes subsidiary terminals, with the exception of referrals to their corporate spokespersons in Denver, we decided to pursue exactly that. For a candid recap of the reception we received upon our arrival on their doorstep, we have provided the video included here.
