Entergy Rates Going Up

By: Jennifer Griggy
Updated: May 30, 2007
(New Orleans, LA) Entergy Arkansas customers will be seeing a 12.6% increase in their bills. The increase is the result of a ruling by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requiring Entergy to equalize the production costs between its various operations. Entergy operates in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. According to Entergy, its other operations rely more on gas-fired generation sources than Entergy Arkansas, and changes in natural gas prices affect production costs more in other states. Other states in the system will see their costs go down. Entergy Arkansas had announced in 2005 that it will leave the system agreement when it expires in 2013. Entergy says it will recalculate the production costs yearly, as long as operating costs for some participants remain outside the range mandated by FERC. Entergy Arkansas serves approximately 679,000 customers in 63 counties. (Copyright 2007 Newsroom Solutions, LLC)
